We want to help you establish simple, lifestyle habits that will nourish your intimacy and protect your relationship from decay. We hope you will join us on this journey.

Date Nite

Every second week, you will get an email in your inbox exploring the topic and detailing an activity for you to do as a couple. This includes some individual reflection questions, instructions for sharing together and something to do during the week.

Schedule a regular date nite where you can explore the topic together over dinner or a glass of wine.

Pen & Paper

We recommend that you purchase two quality journals for you to record your reflections and insights in preparation for your sharing time together.

Think what a gift this will be to each other in the years to come when you are looking back on this time together and can see your growth recorded in your journal!

You’re in Control

You can choose your start date or discontinue at any time.

If you are not yet married, we suggest that you choose a start date one week after the honeymoon when you can give your Newlywed Date Nites your full attention.

If you’re already married, you can start today with your first Date Nite.

Testimonials

The rubber really hits the road when you return from your honeymoon and the daily demands of living with another person start to mount. It’s in these early months that you form critical bonds and ways of relating that set you up for your future together.

The Newlywed email program has been a hugely insightful exercise so far. We love to sit down over a drink to chat, catch up, and learn more about each other. The Date Nite emails provide a topic to read about, and a simple, but impactful, set of questions to discuss.

We knew from our pre-marriage preparation that we needed to make marriage our mission. It is important to be reminded of this as it is easy to get distracted by the pressures of work, friends and family. SmartLoving Newlwed is a reminder to set apart time for each other, to make sure we are prioritising our vocation.”

FAQs

Not much! An email address, 2 notebooks/journals and 2 pens. And a willing heart. Both of you that is.

Eager beavers! You can sign up anytime but now is best (who knows, you might forget or change your mind later!) Select your start date in the subscription form – we suggest the week after the honeymoon. This will tell our system when to begin the Date Nite sequence. You will get the confirmation and welcome email immediately, but the Date Nites will begin on the date you choose.

Are you suggesting we might be ageist?! Absolutely you can! Although Newlywed Date Nites have been written for couples in their first year of marriage, many of the topics are timeless and thus are relevant to couples at any stage.
PS: If you are a few years into marriage, you might enjoy The Marriage Kit – SmartLoving’s marriage enrichment course. www.smartloving.org/marriage-kit.

We get you – we hate it too when an ‘expression of interest’ triggers an inbox gridlock! To be clear: we’re not like that. There are 26 Date Nites and they will be sent to your inbox every two weeks over the course of one year. In addition there a handful of other emails such as the a welcome email and transition emails when you move through each section.

The Date Nites have been designed for married couples to share. If for some reason your spouse can not participate, there is still much  you can gain from them yourself.

The Date Nites consist of three sections: Discover (approx 5 mins reading), Reflect (approx 10 min individual writing), Connect (approx 15 min discussion). You can do the Discover and Reflect parts separately, which leaves only the Connect to do either via phone or video chat, or you can save them up for when you are together again.

Not at the moment. What you can do though, is tag the emails, move them to a dedicated folder, or download and store them so that can work your way through them at your own pace.

What?! You don’t like SL Newlywed Date Nites? We can’t imagine this would ever be the case, but yes, you may unsubscribe at any time. Just click the “unsubscribe” link in the footer of any of the emails.

Yes, but we’ll have to do this manually. Contact us at [email protected]

Either of you can complete the enrolment form with your spouse’s details but your spouse will need to confirm his/her email address with our system. It’s best to add your spouse at the same time you sign up so that the email sequence to both inboxes will be synchronised. https://smartloving.org/newlywed/

Heard the saying: the best things in life are free? No truer words were spoken! SmartLoving Newlywed is FREE during the Amoris Laetitia Family Year (ends July 26 2022) on a ‘Pay It Forward’ arrangement. This is an voluntary donation model that enables all couples to access the content at no charge, and to contribute within their means for future couples if they wish. If sufficient funds are raised we’ll maintain it as a Free/Pay-it-forward resource, and perhaps even develop SL NotSoNewlywed

Sharing is caring. We know that when you find something as good as this, you’ll want to share it. Please DO forward SL Newlywed Date Nite emails to individual couples encouraging them to sign up themselves. Whenever possible, we prefer to have direct contact with the couples who are using this content so please do not set up a routine forward to groups – but get them to subscribe individually. This helps us keep track of how many couples are utilising the resource.

If you wish to publish our content for non-commercial purposes on your website or newsletter, please be sure to give appropriate credit and send us an email with details. For commercial publications, please contact us to discuss: [email protected]

Sending you extra big love! Thank you for your pastoral care to couples in your community. SL Newlywed is designed as an individual couple resource but there’s no reason it can’t be used in a group setting. We’d love to hear your suggestions.
