Natural Fertility Methods

‘Openness to life’ does not require any specific number of children but rather is an attitude that invites God into your decisions about when to conceive a child. It is a continual awareness of his presence in the mystery of your love.

Happily, science has now provided a completely reliable yet perfectly natural way to regulate birth that does not undermine the message of total, mutual self-gift and yet gives you complete freedom to choose when and how many children to conceive. Natural fertility methods will keep you open to God, in tune with each other, and in awe of your sexuality. It is the only method of birth regulation that does not undermine the intimate ‘total gift of self’ but can draw a couple closer in love.

Stories of the Heart

For the first eight years of ur marriage, we used various forms of contraception. We had heard of natural fertility methods (NFM) but did not consider it a realistic option. We were re-introduced to NFM after our second child was born and were pleasantly surprised to find it both reliable and convenient – it was different but no more restrictive to use than any other form of contraception we had previously used. The instruction was easy to follow and gave us both the opportunity to be actively involved in managing our fertility. NFM has added a new dimension to our intimacy – physically, emotionally and spiritual.

Using a natural fertility method has given us the complete confidence of always knowing exactly where we are in our cycle. There is no more guesswork, and we both know. Now, we can decide what we think is right for us and choose to make love or not with what we have agreed in mind. There’s a real sense of being in it together, that it is our fertility, and we both share that responsibility. We are able to be more open and honest with each other, and when we make love, it is even more awesome because we are a total “yes” to each other. There is no holding back.

Concept: Love Gives Life

Your sexual relationship has two inseparable dimensions:

  • Bonding dimension – unites you in body, mind, and heart with your spouse.
  • Life-giving dimension – gives physical and spiritual life to your offspring and to each other.

Both dimensions are necessary for your lovemaking to authentically reflect the divine.
