Mercy Gospel Reflection: Aug 14

Gospel Reflections for Married Couples

14 August  – 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus talks about how he has come to bring fire to the earth. He says, “Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” Jesus goes on to tell us how family members will be set against each other.

Disagreements and discord aren’t experiences that we look forward to in marriage. However, through God’s love they can also be a source of grace as we struggle to work out how we can love each other better.

Are there important conversations you and your spouse need to talk about this week?

Things that might be difficult to discuss which if resolved would bring greater closeness?
